The suspect withdrew money through online exchangers. For several months he managed to "earn" more than half a million hryvnias. Cyberpolice exposed the Ukrainian on the theft of cryptocurrency wallet more than half a million hryvnia. Suspect is a 35-year-old resident of the Kiev region who provided technical support to the British exchange with an online cryptocurrency exchange, the press service of the National Police said.





“Having access, the attacker took advantage of his position and stole funds from Bitcoin- and various Altcoin-accounts of clients. For several months he managed to earn more than half a million hryvnia,” law enforcement officials said.
The capture of cryptocurrency clients took place in several stages. First, the offender selected the cryptocurrency exchange customer accounts. At the same time, he selected those accounts that their owners had not visited for a long time, and on which multifactor authentication was not installed.

After that, the offender changed the backup electronic mailboxes or tied them to accounts on their own, where the backup addresses were not specified. This made it possible to recover passwords for access to wallets and initiate money debiting.

He withdrew money through online exchangers. “At present, the established amount of losses in the equivalent is more than 720 thousand hryvnias,” law enforcement officials stressed.
The young man spent the funds obtained in this way on azatra games on virtual simulators of slot machines.

At the moment, the cyber police has established physical evidence of the crime, in particular - digital.

According to preliminary qualifications, the specified man is suspected of committing an offense under Article 361 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for unauthorized interference with the operation of computers, automated systems, computer networks or telecommunication networks. The issue of declaring an attacker an additional suspicion for the theft of funds is being resolved (Article 185 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

At the same time, cyber police officers check the legality of the activities in Ukraine of a number of other online exchangers through which the conversion and withdrawal of stolen funds was carried out. Measures to identify all victims are also ongoing.
