Law enforcement agencies of Ukraine have detained nine members of a cybercriminal group that operated more than 400 phishing websites. The resources were disguised as the portals of European organizations offering financial assistance to the country.
Input forms hosted on such sites sent information to attackers. This is how bank card data, logins and passwords from online banking, etc. leaked.
Having obtained all the necessary information, cybercriminals could transfer victims' money to their accounts and make other unauthorized transactions.
According to Ukrainian law enforcement officers, the total damage from the activities of the arrested fraudsters amounted to 100 million hryvnia (173 million rubles at the current exchange rate). Nearly 5,000 people were injured in the process.
Users who entered data on one of the phishing sites should notify the cyber police and the bank servicing their accounts about this. The list of malicious web resources that were under the control of the group looks like this: Law enforcement officers do not specify exactly how citizens were lured to the sites, but it is unlikely that the scammers used some new trick. Most likely, this happened in a trite way: through spam mailings, posts on social networks and messages in instant messengers. The Cyber Police of Ukraine published a video of the detention of members of a cybercriminal group, during which law enforcement officers confiscated computer equipment, bank cards, etc.
