Russian citizen Anton B., accused by the US authorities of $ 1.5 billion in cyber fraud, is preparing to give a confession.

Anton B., also known by the pseudonym Kusok, is accused of hacking computers, identity theft under aggravating circumstances and other related crimes committed from June 2014 to November 2016.

According to the prosecution, published in April of this year, the Russian, along with a group of accomplices, "earned" on illegal tax refunds. Through vulnerabilities in accounting software, criminals hacked into computers at US companies that filed tax returns on behalf of their clients. Fraudsters changed personal information of taxpayers, as a result of which overpaid taxes were returned not to them, but to debit cards of fraudsters.

The Russian was arrested in Thailand in November 2017, and then extradited to the United States. According to the lawyer's written appeal to the judge dated December 15 of this year, the defense is currently “settling some issues” with the prosecutor’s office and is preparing to give her client confession on February 3, 2020.

For all the charges brought against the Russian citizen in total faces 27 years in prison.
