Employees of the Cyber Police of Ukraine, together with investigators from the Chernivtsi police, exposed a 22-year-old resident of the Chernivtsi region, who stole the data of 250 thousand users of the game service.

As a member of various thematic forums, the attacker independently learned the basics of malware development and applied the acquired knowledge to make money, the press service of the National Police of Ukraine reports.

The criminal scheme was as follows: the user of the game service received a message about winning a promo code that provides bonuses in the game, but to get it you had to follow the link. The link redirected the user to a phishing site controlled by the attacker, disguised as an original resource.

For authorization, the user had to enter a username and password, which were then sent to the attacker. The criminal subsequently sold the collected databases on clandestine forums, thus earning about 250 thousand hryvnias (about 670 thousand rubles).

During a search of the young man’s place of residence, law enforcement officers seized computer equipment, a mobile phone and two bank cards for which stolen money transactions were carried out.

A criminal case was initiated on this fact under Part 2 of Article 361 (unauthorized interference with the operation of electronic computers (computers), automated systems, computer networks or telecommunication networks) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
