The Southern District Federal District Court of New York sentenced Lithuanian citizen Evaldas Rimasauskas to 5 years in prison for stealing more than $ 120 from Google and Facebook.

Recall that in March this year, the Lithuanian pleaded guilty to fraud using communications, identity theft under aggravating circumstances, as well as on three counts of money laundering.

Rimasauskas registered a company in Lithuania with the name of the existing company Quanta Computer and opened dummy accounts in banks in Slovakia, Cyprus, Latvia, Lithuania and Hungary, where the money of deceived victims was transferred. An attacker carried out BEC attacks (Business Email Compromise) during a fraudulent campaign.

Rimasauskas forged invoices, contracts and letters, supposedly signed by the leaders and agents of the victims' companies, and presented them to banks to confirm the transfer of large amounts from the accounts of these companies to their own accounts. Using a fake email, the fraudster stole $ 99 million and $ 23 million from Facebook and Google, respectively.

After serving his sentence, Rimasauskas will be under administrative supervision for two years, and will also pay a fine of $ 49,738,559.41 - "the amount of income that can be tracked for committing a crime under paragraph 1 of the indictment, which the defendant personally received." Also, the defendant must indemnify in the amount of $ 26,479,079.24.
